Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL Ring Crown in the 1940s for Copenhagen's Danish Broadcasting House, one of the defining commissions of Nordic modernism. The lamp was conceived as architecture and interior in one gesture, and its presence has never read as incidental.
Three mouth-blown, triple-layered opal glass shades distribute light with a softness that is entirely free of glare. The shades are arranged in a crown-like ring, a form that carries quiet ceremony without ornament. Below them, a slender frame in untreated satin polished brass will, over years of use, develop its own patina, a record of the atmosphere it has inhabited.
