Tiuku Standing Pendulum Clock

Tiuku Standing Pendulum Clock

Finnish designer Ari Kanerva looked at the grandfather clock, one of domestic design's most loaded archetypes, and stripped it to its logic. The result is Tiuku, a standing pendulum clock that keeps only what the function demands: two spare legs, a slender metal body, and a swinging pendulum doing its quiet, honest work.

The name comes from the Finnish word for "bell," and the piece carries that Nordic directness throughout. Standing over six feet tall, it leans gently against the wall at a calibrated angle, its height commanding without ornamentation. The smooth metal construction reads differently across light conditions, shifting from sculptural object to working instrument depending on where it stands.

  • Designed by Ari Kanerva for COVO
  • Metal construction with working pendulum movement
  • Stands over six feet tall on two legs
  • Leans against the wall at a fixed angle
  • Minimal silhouette rooted in Finnish design sensibility

Where the traditional grandfather clock accumulated molding, glass, and ritual, Tiuku accumulates nothing. It is a clock that respects the intelligence of the people who live with it.
