The Visitor Sculpture (Small)
Belgian artist Guido Deleu conceived The Visitor as a quiet presence, a ceramic figure that carries the weight of human form without over-explaining it. Each piece is handcrafted at Cores da Terra, the studio of Selma Calheira in Brazil, where natural clay and color pigments are the only materials at work. No industrial finishes, no synthetic color.
Cores da Terra has become widely recognized for its role in developing local artisans and contributing directly to the cultural and economic life of one of Brazil's most underserved regions. Works from this studio are held in museums and galleries internationally.
Because Deleu works exclusively with natural pigments, each Visitor carries slight tonal variation. No two are identical. Displayed alone, the small sculpture holds its own. Grouped in multiples, the figures enter into a quiet conversation with one another and with the space around them.
