Obello Portable Lamp
Mathieu Matégot spent much of his career asking what a functional object could become when treated with the seriousness of sculpture. The Obello Portable Lamp answers that question quietly. Its form carries the proportional confidence of mid-century modernism without nostalgia, arriving instead as something altogether present.
Freed from the cord, the Obello moves with its user. A rechargeable battery system and touch-sensitive dimmer, spanning three brightness levels, give it a range that few portable lamps achieve without sacrificing considered form. The silhouette is compact but not diminutive, holding its own on a side table, a desk, or an outdoor surface at dusk.
- Rechargeable battery with touch-sensitive dimming across three levels
- Available in Black, White, and International Orange
- Equally suited to interior and outdoor settings
- Designed by Mathieu Matégot for GUBI
The colorway choices are not incidental. International Orange, in particular, recalls Matégot's own graphic boldness and his affinity for color as a structural element rather than a decorative finish. Each finish reads differently across the lamp's curved geometry, making colorway selection a genuine design decision.
