Modular Imagination

Modular Imagination

In 2020, Virgil Abloh entered into dialogue with Cassina around one of the most generative questions in contemporary design: what does modularity truly make possible? The result was Modular Imagination, a geometric base unit of deceptive simplicity, available in two sizes, conceived to be arranged and rearranged by those who inhabit it.

The form is deliberate. A matte black finish reads as rigid, even austere, yet the surface conceals an unexpected softness beneath. Each unit functions as both seat and table, shifting identity with placement rather than form. A purpose-built connector allows two pieces to overlap, extending compositional range without dissolving the integrity of each individual unit.

  • Available in two sizes for varied configuration
  • Dual function as seat and low table
  • Matte black finish with a soft inner surface
  • Special connector system enables modular overlap

Abloh's design practice consistently questioned the boundaries between objects, identities, and disciplines. Modular Imagination carries that sensibility into furniture: a system that resists fixed definition, asking those who use it to complete its meaning.
