MG501 Cuba Chair

MG501 Cuba Chair

Morten Gottler designed the MG501 Cuba Chair after encountering the hand-woven rattan chairs of 1950s Havana, and the influence is legible in every detail. The frame - available in solid oak or walnut - is reduced to its structural essentials, each joint expressing the logic of the whole.

The seat and back are hand-woven in leather or textile cord, a process that requires both technical skill and patience. The weave is not decoration. It is the chair's primary gesture, distributing weight across the surface and giving the piece its characteristic warmth.

  • Frame in solid oak or solid walnut, available in multiple finishes
  • Seat and back hand-woven in leather or textile cord
  • Designed by Morten Gottler for Carl Hansen and Søn
  • Produced in Denmark to Carl Hansen's established craft standards

The MG501 reads differently depending on the room it occupies. In spare, light-filled interiors it becomes sculptural. Alongside heavier furniture it offers counterpoint. Either way, the proportions hold.
