Materic Table
Piero Lissoni designed the Materic table as a quiet confrontation between two materials: the geological stillness of white Carrara marble and the warm, directional grain of black stained solid ash. The result is a piece that reads differently depending on where you stand in the room.
The base is formed from twelve solid ash boards, each turned and connected through finger joints to compose a truncated cone of precise geometry. The joinery is not concealed. The wood grain wraps the form continuously, making the structure itself a surface worth reading. Above it, the round marble top is fitted with a rotating central disc, a functional gesture that feels as considered as any purely formal decision.
