Dancing Squares Lamps

Dancing Squares Lamps

By folding geometrically patterned steel sheet into spherical volumes, Nendo gave physical form to the idea of motion held still. The Dancing Squares lamps appear to roll, yet rest with quiet stability, their faceted planes finding balance through pure geometry.

Light passes through a carefully considered pattern of solids and voids, projecting shifting pools across walls and floor. The effect changes with viewing angle and distance, making each placement a distinct atmospheric decision.

Originally presented in Nendo's 2011 exhibition of the same name, the lamps entered production through Specimen Editions in recognition of their formal resolution. Three heights, 34, 54, and 74 cm, allow the form to read as table object, floor presence, or suspended sculpture. A 75-inch cord accommodates hardwired suspension or plug-in use, giving the piece genuine flexibility across architectural contexts.
