Capitol Complex Table
Pierre Jeanneret designed this table for the legislative buildings of Chandigarh in the 1950s, as part of the vast civic project he undertook alongside Le Corbusier. What emerged was a body of furniture that translated architectural thinking directly into object form, each piece governed by the same structural logic as the buildings it served.
The Capitol Complex Table is among the most legible of those objects. Its base is defined by the inverted "V" leg, a recurring element across Jeanneret's Chandigarh vocabulary that speaks to both economy of material and clarity of form. The construction is honest in the way that only genuinely considered furniture can be: no ornament, no concealment, just proportion doing its work.
Cassina's reissue draws directly from the original drawings, with a solid wood base finished in Oak Stained Black and an optional float glass top that allows the base's geometry to remain the dominant presence. The grain and weight of the wood ground the piece; the glass, where chosen, gives it a quieter atmosphere without diminishing its silhouette.
