Rodolfo Dordoni shaped Buds 1 around a single disciplined gesture: an elongated diffuser, blown by hand in five layered casings of glass, suspended above a base so clear it nearly disappears. The result is a lamp that reads differently lit and unlit, warm ivory when illuminated, cool and sculptural at rest.
The cased-glass technique is a demanding one, requiring each layer to be added and formed while the previous remains molten. That accumulation of material gives the shade its depth and its characteristic glow, diffuse and even, without any point of glare.
