BHSD Monster Sculptures

BHSD Monster Sculptures

Maarten Baas began the BHSD collection with a single instruction to himself: make it look as naïve as can be. What followed were doodles, the kind of unselfconscious marks that bypass training and arrive directly from instinct. The result is a trio of glass creatures, catalogued with the dry precision of a scientific register as BHSD-001, BHSD-002, and BHSD-003.

The absence of poetic names is itself a statement. Baas resists the temptation to romanticize, letting form carry the weight. Each monster is rendered in Lasvit's hand-blown glass, a material whose warmth and imprecision suits the creatures perfectly. The slight irregularities that live in every piece are not flaws. They are the point.

  • Hand-blown glass construction by Lasvit artisans in Bohemia
  • Three distinct figures: BHSD-001, BHSD-002, and BHSD-003
  • Made to order

Baas is known for collapsing the distance between childlike expression and serious craft. Here, that distance disappears entirely. These objects sit in a room the way a confident drawing sits on a wall: without apology, and with more presence than their scale suggests.
