Bambu Vase
Laura De Santillana conceived Bambu in 1998 as an exploration of organic form in molten glass. The elongated silhouette, drawn upward like a stalk of bamboo, emerges from a centuries-old Venetian craft tradition while arriving at something unmistakably contemporary.
Each piece is hand-blown on the island of Murano, where the material is coaxed rather than forced. Color saturates the glass from within, shifting with ambient light in ways that photography cannot fully capture. No two pieces are identical.
Bambu holds a place in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts at the Louvre in Paris, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. These institutions position it not as decorative object but as studio glass at the scale of fine art.
