1000 Karat Blau Pendant Lamp
Axel Schmid conceived the 1000 Karat Blau as a study in captured light. Acrylic panels, each holding reflective gold leaf within their depth, are assembled into a rectilinear grid that hangs from the ceiling with quiet authority. Light does not simply pass through the form, it bounces, multiplies, and transforms, producing an illumination that shifts with the viewer's position.
The lamp belongs to a lineage of poetic experimentation that has defined Ingo Maurer's studio since its founding in Munich in 1966. Where other lighting objects illuminate a room, this one performs within it. Gold is not applied as ornament here, it is the medium, the mirror, and the subject.
